In my opinion, Instagram seems to be the most geared towards personal use. Most social media platforms started as a way to keep in contact with friends and family but quickly evolved into a way to promote products and new businesses. One of the most groundbreaking social media sites is Facebook. I think that as social media has grown into a business platform that Facebook has stayed current and made their site something that would be great for not just socializing but promoting your company and connecting with interested customers.
One social media platform that is not geared towards business, in my opinion, is Twitter. Twitter seems to be one of the only sites that has not become a major business platform. Instagram seems to work great for both personal and business-related uses. "Influencers" can promote products for companies and make lots of money based off of the number of followers they have. It is not uncommon to see Instagrams with 200k+ followers posting ads and promotions for different companies trying to promote their product to a larger audience.
With all of this in mind, I do believe that social media is a great way for businesses to reach out to a wider audience and promote their products. As social media continues to grow and change it will be interesting to see which sites stay popular or if there are any new sites/apps that will steal the spotlight. If any of these popular social media sites do lose popularity it will also be very interesting to see what the influencers that make their living off of social media turn to.

Hi Alexa! I couldn't agree more with what you said about Facebook and Twitter! Fb is highly geared towards being a business platform while Twitter has become popular for personal use.
ReplyDeleteVery interesting! It seems the majority is moving away towards facebook and Instagram is becoming the new norm. First mention I saw so far of Twitter too! I know it is very popular and I always associate it in my head with more pop culture and celebrities.
ReplyDeleteI agree Instagram is highly used for personal use. I also am curious to see how social media evolves and which companies will survive and/or transform.
